Elko at the Red Lion

So we have been here almost a week and are down to our last night at this amazing casino, which is actually quite sad because we really really like it here and would love to stay longer BUT other bands need to work too so I guess we’ll just go when our time comes. *sigh. This casino has everything! Their casino is awesome, rooms are amazing and comfy, the whole place is incredibly clean, the cabaret is cozy, the staff here are as friendly and welcoming as your favorite aunt or uncle, there is a little gym for hotel guests, a fancy resturaunt called Aspens (haven’t eaten there yet, hear great things about it, but I know the place is snazzy looking!), the coffee shop (the restaurant) has a great variety of food and is tasty and THEY HAVE A STARBUCKS!! What else could you possible need?? This place has it goin on! See why I like it so much??

Ok, now this blog is not only to tell you guys how much we like it here (WE REALLY REALLY LIKE IT HERE! Did I mention that already?), but it’s also to tell you guys about their food. Oh. My. God. The food….

Being out on the road all the time doesn’t really make it easy to eat healthy. We stay in hotel rooms constantly and have to eat out every day. Which isn’t all that bad, except the cost of it gets pretty bad after a while. But what we have found is that every place has pretty much the same menu. Things get boring after a while. Seeing the same things, eating the same things, etc.. etc.. burgers get pretty tiring and your stomach can only handle so much grease. But here in Elko, they have a different buffet every single night! Mexican, bbq, italian, seafood, asian, and 2 others I can’t remember. You all know how good buffets are right? Ya, so do we!! The problem with buffets and this family… we take it as a personal challenge. Well, the boys do at least haha!

I have to say that out of all the nights here, Fridays seafood buffet is my absolute favorite! I love seafood. I was born and raised on the coast. Fresh seafood is available every where! We don’t eat that much fish at home because it is kind of pricey, so when we come to Elko and there is a never ending supply on Friday and at a decent price… I EAT! They have these oysters (I’m drooling just thinking about them) that are cooked and topped with a little butter and hot melted Asiago cheese. I’m telling you, if you ever want to taste heaven, there it is! I’ve had some pretty tasty meals before but these oysters top everything!

Even though there is a huge variety of seafood there on Friday night like crab legs, muscles cooked with veggies, breaded shrimp, seafood pasta, cold shrimp, calm chowder, salmon, cod, etc… my plate is always loaded with those oysters. I can’t help it. And I return at least a few times for more. Ok ok ok… I know I sound like a little piggy right now but seriously, the meat in those oysters is the size of a nickel, sometimes a quarter, so I may look like I’m eating WAY too much but I’m really not. Now, the cheese on these puppies has a unique flavor. It’s one of those you either love it or hate it type things. In my case, I love it. And there is always more cheese left over on the shell, so I found that putting it on a bun tastes pretty damn good. OH!! I almost forgot!! They have Shrimp Creole!! I do like me some shrimp creole. Spicey as hell but Oooo so tasty. I can only eat a little bit because of the spice but my lord it’s good!! They do have a desert bar also but after what I have for dinner that night, I have no room for cookies or icecream. So, now who’s hungry?!

Tonight is our last night. Start at 9 pm then heading home tomorrow. Another 15 hour drive awaits. My butt is not prepared!! Crap… I should start packing. Well, until next time!! See ya!!
